the past transforms
to present tense.

Previews of the future
present themselves
in past tense;
in all, reviews of awe:
thoughts on what just occurred.
(but)
Never again will it,
if only unneeded words
could misconstrue themselves
and emerge repaired,
bound together loosely,
as incantations mothering
a new meaning, to a set
of characters otherwise
non-existent.
